What is RUS (Radioulnar Synostosis)?

Medical Version:

RUS is a bone condition in which the radial and ulnar bones of the elbow are partially or fully fused, preventing full pronation or supination of the hand. It can be congenital or post-traumatic.

Layman’s Version:

RUS is a rare bone problem where the two bones in the lower arm are stuck together. This stops someone from rotating their hand all the way. The hand can be stuck palm up, palm down or palm pointing in.

Most people who have RUS are born with it (congenital radioulnar synostosis). Some people get it after breaking their lower arm or elbow (post-traumatic radioular synostosis).

RUS does not always get in the way. Most people with RUS will live normal lives. They might make small changes to the way they work, type on a keyboard, or perform some physical actions. A few people experience pain and more significant mobility issues that hinder their ability to complete certain tasks.
